This tale from the
Tulsa World harks back to the end of the Evil Empire. If you don't know what that is historically, thank your grandparents and great-grandparents who both held marches for peace, and manned nuclear silos.

This article mentions a plethora of weird tales that have been emanating from the Soviet Union around this time. Could it be that these tales of outré events were part of a disinformation scheme to distract the tovarisches (comrades) from their own real-world miseries?
