Honeymoon in Hell

Yes, it's another year of installments of
Scary Books, Kiddies!

Honeymoon in Hell.  Fredric Brown, 1958.  Bantam, 1982.  This selection from Bantam gives no cover credit.

But wouldn’t you be intrigued to meet her ?!?! ... even if it’s the last thing you ever do ...

It’s another brief tome packed with more ideas in 150 pages than many authors achieve in 700.  Among the many gems is “Arena,” adapted by Star Trek as an episode of the same name.

“The Weapon” sticks in your memory.  Only a madman would give a loaded gun to an idiot.

And don’t forget the vignette, “Imagine.”  Rediscover some of that ol’ sense of wonder here, kiddies!
See you on Monday.  Don't get spooked!

Come Get a New Boo!

Since our neighborhood library, the Almonte in OKC, is being rebuilt NEW AND IMPROVED, I go to browse at the next nearest, the Southern Oaks library.
Here is the section where they put out new arrivals.  Take a look at the far left end of this shelf.
As you see, the black vertical sign does NOT say "NEW BOOKS."  Just in time for this season, we're offered "NEW BOO."

Now that's my type of library!

See you on Friday!

Get Punked -- Halloween Style!

 Welcome to BLOG-O-WEEN 2023!

Yes, it’s a bunch of silly, scary, goofy, flesh-crawling songs from the Halloween side of the 1980s!  Maybe when you’re done listening, you’ll have conquered all your monsters (Track 2).  Track 4 is an instrumental misnamed after the leading character of Escape from New York Track 10 is a fairly sad cash-in attempt.  Would you rather be a teenage werewolf, or his bride (Tracks 17 and 18)?  Track 20 is a silly parody of Cher’s “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves.”  Track 21 is a paranoid rumination on a certain unlucky number.  Track 23 is from the fun 1985 TV movie The Midnight Hour, including such luminaries as Shari Belafonte, LeVar Burton, and Macaulay Culkin’s first role as an uncredited trick-or-treater.  But I saved the best track of all for last, by the minimalist geniuses the Jr Chemists.  Enjoy!
