Gerald Fried, Composer of Miracles

In my view, Gerald Fried is a genius of TV composion.  He produced great scores for Star Trek and The Man from U.N.C.L.E., as well as many other "low-budget" films and other TV shows.  His score for The Return of Dracula is the best part of that film, as he wrenches around the "Dies Irae" theme to make the orchestra wail and moan.

Today I came across this thing...

And it intrigues me because it is a TRANSPARENT ATTEMPT to pre-empt a desired dialog over our masked vigilante defenders.  Here is an actual copy of The New Frontiersman of the times in question:

One way in which you can tell that the first example is a modern fabrication is simply its prose style.  An actual newpaper, expecially from the 1980s, would have a paragraph indent (typically five spaces) at the beginning ov each paragraph.  Instead, the pretender adds a blank line in between graphs, and starts the new paragraph flush left, in the new "internewt" style.

This stylistic bungle PROVES the modern provenance of this "back-dated" slander.

So, beware of plagiarisms.  Our esteemed president Nixon has at times dropped hints about various "dirty tricks" undertaken by his opponents, the shady left-leaners of the lavender persuasion.

Well, the dirty tricks are upon us!  I implore you to stay true to the PURITY OF PURPOSE expressed by our hooded heroes.

This is a NEW collection of the library music featured on the legendary George Reeves Adventures of Superman TV series.

When I shared my first collection of music, ripped from cassettes I had bought back in the 1990s, I got a comment from a great guy, Craig Wichman, of Quicksilver Radio Theatre, saying he too had bought some of these tapes. I got in contact with Craig, and after some dubbing and research and help from another devotee of Superman music, we have yer basic finished product.

A month or two ago, fellow cousin (that's a Man from U.N.C.L.E. fan) Jon Heitland, author of The Man from U.N.C.L.E. "Adventures of Superman" TV Director Interview

I've been looking through my old Starlog magazines, trying to find that dang article about "Adventures of Superman" music that prompted me to order those tapes from Vintage Soundtrack (now found on MA-52 - Adventures of Superman - original MUTEL catalog recordings .   In the process I've come across some other things to share.

I remember reading somewhere that Sholem was a fast director.  He would set up the shots and get the shots in a hurry, with no artistic angst and very few retakes.  He was nicknamed "Roll 'em Sholem" although I don't know if it was to his face!

MA-49 - Walpurga's Dance

Walpurgisnacht, the night from 30 April to 1 May, is the night when witches are reputed to hold a large celebration on the Brocken and await the arrival of spring.

 Walpurgis Night (in German folklore) the night of 30 April (May Day's eve), when witches meet on the Brocken mountain and hold revels with their gods.

 Brocken is the highest of the Harz Mountains of north central Germany. It is noted for the phenomenon of the Brocken spectre and for witches' revels which reputedly took place there on Walpurgis night.

 The Brocken Spectre is a magnified shadow of an observer, typically surrounded by rainbow-like bands, thrown onto a bank of cloud in high mountain areas when the sun is low. The phenomenon was first reported on the Brocken.

Getting Ready for Walpurgis Night

For me, the concept of Walpurgis Night is simply a good excuse to listen to scary music.  Walpurgis Night (Walpurgisnacht) is a traditional spring festival on 30 April or 1 May in large parts of Central and Northern Europe. It is often celebrated with dancing and with bonfires. It is exactly six months from All Hallows' Eve.

MA-52 - Adventures of Superman - original MUTEL catalog recordings

Most of you will remember my tale of ordering a couple of audio cassettes in the early 1990s from a now-defunct company called Vintage Soundtrak after reading an article about them in STARLOG magazine.

The article told the strange and sordid story of how music used in the Adventures of Superman and other syndicated TV shows of the 1950s came to be. It was a story of commercial repression and international subterfuge, with payoffs and assumed identities.

One of my first themes compilations was MA-03 - Adventures of Superman - Original MUTEL Soundtrack Recordings. This disc is an expansion, rerecorded versions of all of that disc's material plus another twelve or so selections.

As you already know, the Varese Sarabande label released a disc of Adventures of Superman music about ten years ago. My earlier release was music not heard on that commercial release.

But now I am including ALL the music purchased long ago and embodied on those two cassettes.

This orgy of sharing was spurred by the kind and insightful comments of an anonymous correspondent, who told me that not only were some of the Varese Sarabande selections EDITED to sound more like their Superman presentation, but also that my "version" of identical material sounded of a better quality than the commercial disc! What a compliment.

Also, one of the cues on my disc was in fact two cues that needed to be separated, and one or two cues were misnamed. This has all been corrected now.

Psst! Want to Know What THEY Don't Want You to Know?

Well, you came to the wrong place.  The only things you'll learn from these books is breathless fourth-hand stories of something that somebody three times removed said they heard about from somebody they can't name.

You see, the government knows all about it.  The aliens have made a deal with the government.  The government lets the aliens take and experiment on us and the aliens in return are supposed to give the government new, advanced technologies.

Only problem is, those sneaky aliens have gone back on their word and have started kidnaping a lot more of us than was originally agreed.

Most of these experiments happen in these underground installations, you see, which were originally intended for human use but have been mostly taken over by these alien critters with big eyes and scalpels.

And if you believe things like that, then you probably believe things like Masons running the world and crystals from Atlantis.

All this stuff is pathetic and silly, folks.  The only documented alien stranger to this Earth is due back soon.  We celebrated his Resurrection a couple of weeks ago.

 

More Dumb Amazon Suggestions

 Another head-scratcher.  What does the ethnicity of Hawaii have to do with Superman?  Does the "Suggested for You" algorithm think that the two are inter-connected through the Superman-as-Immigrant idea?  Who knows!

These wicked-looking things are tools for carving wax.  Bomboozled is a rabidly left-wing book-length abhorration of the Cold War and the USA's nuclear strength (that kept us alive and un-bombed).   However, the volume is a GREAT repository of Cold war imagery, and that's why I'd like to own a copy someday.

What does Cold War America have to do with wax shaping tools?
